Events of the FIDE Social Projects Pavillion

The FIDE Social Projects Pavillion was formally opened on Saturday July 30th, when FIDE president Arkady Dvorkovich and colleagues «cut the ribbon» to declare this new unique FIDE Olympics feature for opened.

Since then there has been some busy days, with seminars for

  • the Kakuma Kenya chess for refugees project, by chair of FIDE Social Commission Geir Nesheim,
  • the Infinite project which is chess for children with ASD, by Anastasia Sorokina, and
  • the Disabled Commission by commisison chair Thomas Vogel.

The seminars covered many interesting aspects, and pulled good crowds from the busy Expo are in the playing hall.

The pavillion also has an exhibition with information about the many FIDE projects with social angles that are currently running.

Next up is

  • Tuesday August 2nd, 5 pm local time:
    • Chess For Freedom, the big chess in prison project with a new intercontinental tournament coming up in October 2022
    • There will even be an exhibition match show non the pavillion big screen between the Chicago prison and a prison in India
    • Mikhail Korenman of the Social Commission will lead proceedings
  • Wednesday August 3rd the Education Commission will take stage, with the commission chair Smbat Lputian in charge, and finally
  • Friday August 5th at 5 pm there will be two seminars,
    • one on multiple social projects around the world
      • including a simple Do It Yourself for federations who want to launch such intiatives, and
    • o non the new Social Commission initiative Chess and the Ageing Brain
    • Both of these seminars are lead by Geir Nesheim of the Social Commission
  • Finally on Saturday August 6th , there will be a closing ceremony to celebrate this years newcommer: The Social Projects Olympic Pavillion!
