FIDE Funding for Social Initiatives:
A Guide

FIDE is dedicated to supporting social initiatives through funding opportunities aimed at promoting development and making a positive impact within communities.

This guide provides key information on how federations and organizations can apply for funding, the types of projects that qualify, and how applications are evaluated.

Applications are thoroughly reviewed in a
multi-step process:

  • The Planning and Development Commission (PDC) conducts the initial review.

  • Applications are then escalated to FIDE officials for final validation.

  • The evaluation criteria are outlined in FIDE’s guidelines, which specify priority areas for support and funding.

Application Review and Evaluation Process

4

To apply, applicants must provide detailed information about their project. Although FIDE is working to implement a user-friendly survey tool for future application cycles, the current application process requires the following details:

  • Objectives of the initiative.

  • A clear description of the project.

  • A proposed budget.

  • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) impacted by the project and expected results.

  • Plans for communication and outreach.

  • Information about sponsors or partners involved in the initiative.

Required Documentation for Applications

3

The funding application cycle is open annually from March 1st to October 31st.

Projects submitted for funding must be executed within the same calendar year.

Timelines and Deadlines

2

FIDE focuses on funding development projects that create meaningful social impact. Examples include:

  • Social chess programs aimed at underprivileged and/or underrepresented communities.

  • Initiatives using chess to promote education, inclusion, or mental well-being.

However, routine administrative activities or projects that have been running for several years as part of an entity's standard operations are not what we aim for.  Instead, FIDE seeks innovative or newly proposed initiatives that align with its development goals.
